August is brutally hot in Moab. You will want to get up in elevation the best you can to camp at night. Warner Campground is awesome... but small and fills up fast. I believe you can make reservations online several weeks in advance. There are a few BLM/FS spots up on Polar Mesa as well. Either...
I was waiting to see how many people RSVP'd but here is the place I use for all group sizes.
38.410902, -109.468340 - South of town off of Behind the Rocks Road. Its up against the cliffs with some mines and sand dunes to check out as well.
For a really fun loop... Run Potash Rd, UP Shafer Switchbacks and back DOWN Long Canyon and return to Moab that way. More dirt = more fun. All are easily doable in a stock JKU.
For living in this area, Fruita, Colorado really is a prime hub for adventure.
For your trip I would suggest these waypoints:
1. Estes Park - Trail Ridge Road
2. Shrine Pass
3. Hwy 128 into Moab
4. Moab.... Potash road - Shafer Switchbacks - Long Canyon loop
5. Moab.... Kane Creek road to...
Welcome to OB.
Deland is right outside of Ocala NF and there are trails and camping in there for sure. Keep an eye on Rally Point and the local SE region part of the forum for local trail runs and meetups in your area.
Come to Fruita and do it all.
We have Mtn Biking, hiking and wheeling all here in town.
Bikes:
Kokopelli/Loma Trails(My favorite - everything from flowy to techy),
18rd trails(flowy and fast),
Palisade Rim(lots of climbing but worth it)
Grand Junction Trails(mostly techy but still fun)...
Come hang out with fellow OB'ers in beautiful Moab, Utah.
See the sights and get your tires dirty on the Chicken Corners trail on Saturday. ~5/6 hour trail day(start/end downtown Moab)
Once we get a pretty close RSVP number I can find a good place for the group to camp...if you dont want to...
Pagosa Springs isn't too close but I'll be wheeling all over the state that week and could meet somewhere.
I'll be at Red Rocks Ampitheater on July 4th and a wedding in Ouray July 5th. I'm hoping to tackle Wearyman Creek and Holy Cross before the 4th and then head south to Ouray early on the...
I know theres not a huge OB presence living in my area but A LOT of OB'ers travel through here. Would there be any interest in having a regularly scheduled meetup or trail ride(monthly/quarterly) in this area?
Let me know and Ill see what I can do to make it happen!
I was down in Texas a few weeks ago visiting Tribe16(the premier Jeep and Offroad Race shop in Texas). While I was drooling over the amazing rigs they are always building there, I got a sneak peak at Tribe16's new Molle panels for the Jeep JK/JL.
My favorite are the flank(side) panels that let...
I love Muley Point and the Moki Dugway. Next time you go that direction, plan a few extra days and run the Hole In The Rock trail. Its a long 2 day trip or a easy 3 day trip since its a rough out and back about 50 miles each way.
Im the member rep for Western Colorado/Eastern Utah. I can point you in a few directions for my area... I have a Tundra in my fleet as well.
I would go from Mesa Verde to Silverton/Ouray and camp for a night or two before heading to Moab. Your Tundra can easily go up Yankee Boy Basin, Animas...
Great looking truck.
I think you should take a serious look at the Falcon 2" Sport Leveling system. Falcon Shocks are made right in Salt Lake City, Utah by a small group of offroad guys... Teraflex... A long time leader in Jeep suspension. They have really put A LOT of work into the Falcon line...
