@graybaker I don’t know which Thule you have, but I remember watching a YouTube video by JonDZadventuring and he claims to have kept a full-size spare in his. It was his latest video about a hitch mount tire carrier. Might be worth checking out?
@graybaker yeah I can see how close you get to that. I removed the spare tire and all the foam components. It was absurd how much storage I gained from it. I had to build a frame to support the trunk liner. I’m happy with the decision.
Had an opportunity to put some work in today.
Build update: Still waiting on the brackets to mount the rooftop light bar. Should have it mounted up before the weeks end.
I’ll be on El Camino del Diablo in a week and half! Really excited about this track, so I’m hoping weather stays favorable—no rain please. This will be the last 1/3 of my TX to CA trip: Big Bend NP, Lincoln NF, White Sands NP, Tombstone, El Camino..., and last but not least, Anza-Borrego NP...
Tires are great starting points!
I would do your research on roof racks as there are a lot to there that don't have ideal load ratings depending on what your intentions are. If I were to reset, I would have done tires and lift first--in lieu of spacers I may have done the Ironman 4X4 kit...
@spazegun2213 awesome build! I’m sure you’ve watched the YouTube channel, but Primal Outdoors lives the vanlife in Ford 350. His method for insulting was interesting. I think he used moving blankets and pine boards?
@mep1811 oh wow! Hope you're having fun and staying safe out there. My sister lives in Pearland, TX where the surrounding 2.5m people are without electricity. It's madness! So many choices out there for tires. I have the Wildpeak A/T Trails but I have nothing to base them on so I don't really...
New goodies for the Subaru: Smittybilt MOLLE Visor Cover to better organize the cab, mounting brackets for the 32" light bar getting mounted to the Thule roof basket, and KC universal wire hider for the wiring.
Admittedly I know nothing about cigars, but I truly can appreciate them. Whenever I visit my sister and brother-in-law we have this growing tradition where one of the nights we spark up a bonfire, pour up a glass, and sit back with a cigar. I am headed out to see them at the end of the month and...
