That dude has his bug out bag dialed in. A little excessive when you have a rig that can store all that stuff rather than packing a backpack with a bunch of molle packs attached to it. The minimalist style shown in the OPs post is more suited to a backpacking ideology while many overlanders tend...
The gazelle is an easy up and tear down with lots of room and is a stand up tent. We use 2 cots to get up off the ground which makes it flexible in "off camber" sites. Easy for one person to setup and teardown, but the additional cots and pillows and pads etc.. make it a little more work. I've...
Lots of great suggestions already, so I'll only emphasize communications and navigation. You'll want to know where you are (if the intent is to get lost, then you'll know how to get back!) and some form of communications. A GMRS radio at a minimum is essential on group runs, HAM for longer range...
I bought an emblem grille mount on Etsy for $9. The guy 3D prints them specifically for OB emblems. Has 2 zip ties to wrap around the grille insert and would likely fit most.
Hello Ray, and welcome to the OB community! Look forward to meeting you on the trails in CO or at a meetup sometime soon. Lots of active folks in the region, so don't hesitate to jump right in!
Thanks Tom, that thing is impressive! I checked out your build thread, its awesome. How long did it take from start to finish? (ok, start to really useable; I know it is never truly finished :smirk: )
Welcome to OB Brice! Look forward to seeing that rig when it arrives! When you're ready to explore Colorado, hit us up, we have a great group in the region (like all OB regions!!)
Welcome (back) to OB Tim! We've come a long way and hope you can connect and explore as you've suggested. That eclipse in 2024 is a great objective to work toward, and photography and overlanding go very well together!
Welcome to OB Jenny! That's quite a rig, I'm a Tacoma driver myself, having had a 2nd gen and now a 3rd gen. This thing looks ready to go, and I'm sure you'll have no trouble getting out to explore it it!
So I am maxing out what my rig can carry, and frankly, don't need all my gear on the truck all the time. Same story as many of you I am sure. This is compelling me to consider a trailer. I'm an amateur welder, and have the shop space to build, but it seems like a daunting endeavor vs. buying...
I've not had any real issues with wind, but it depends on the burner setup/style. I have the Eastman burner and a large plow disc, which puts out a pretty steady flame that is close to the disc. Heat transfer is consistent in most all conditions.
In the spirit of Veterans Day, I thought it would be good to promote the folks I got my Disc from. I went with the 22" and had an Eastman burner already. All I can say is that these things are awesome. Lots of size options and styles, and a very reasonable price.

Welcome to OB Gary! You'll get plenty of opinions and ideas here about what rig to get, just remember, it doesn't matter what you drive, just get out and explore!
