Cool.
I never watched to video that was linked above, I built mine way before. I'll try to remember to take some pictures of what I did to give you some ideas. Have you found IH8MUD? Its a landcruiser tech forum. Go to the 80's section and search drawer systems. A few people posted their builds.
I'll second building it out of cardboard first. Almost everything I build, starts with a cardboard mock up. Once done, you have templates.
Fridge size more depends on you. I run a 25 qt in the back of my Cruiser. I keep the perishables to a minimum and leave room for a few drinks. Even being a...
I think anyone who owned a pickup in the 80's had a cargo net. Not sure why I stopped using them, possibly because of the poor build quality of the times. These look to be well built. On the other hand, the video shows cargo boxes on a platform being held in place with the net. My experience...
I've towed off road quite a bit. Its not so much the truck you have to worry about but unsticking the trailer. The trailer itself will also get the tow rig stuck.
Most of my towing is dirt road with some barely graded. Depending on where I went I would pull between 6k-8k. The biggest issues are...
I have one on the front separating everything and one in the rear on the inside of my frame. The rear one gives me a spot if I wanted to add in other rear lights but it also is my junction for my rear power feed. I also ran two extra wires from the front box to the rear just incase I want to add...
My cruiser in 96 sold for 58k and the Lexus was almost 10k more. That was 28 years ago. Up to that point they really weren't commuter vehicles, the low powered I-6 tells us that. The last of the 80 body style they gave it more comfort and brought in Lexus. Drive train wise, it still wasn't...
Old picture? One of the few who may stick around? One of the many who were in it for the fad? Not sure how to respond to the question that wasnt already stated.
I am one of the few who have been doing this for decades. As I posted seven pages ago, it became a fad that's fading, just like all...
If you think that's bad, the dealer I bought my truck from sold my email and my phone number. Like you I have multiple emails. I stupidly used my main email when I bought my truck. Three weeks later, at the beginning of the next month, I came home to almost 200 spam emails. My "unknown number"...
I have a bunch of the rigid pro D's as my forward facing lights. I also need something to the side more. My light is almost 90 degrees off my bumper but i just need that little bit more side lighting. especially in the forest.
I think the D pros are a bit big for my side lights and I dont know...
I like the recess idea. I'm not going to say mine sticking out is an issue< I just dont like it. My ammo cans were for tools and junk in my old jeeps. I loved the way they fit. The quick release killed that. I especially like the "OOPS" cover.
My RTT was a soft shell. Thus the wind comment.
For more details, here's the link to my build. There's a few things I would do diffrent. I spent too much time reserching and worrying about structure that I went overboard on the chassis
Going off the top of my head
The box is 5X9. The sleeping...
I still own mine. I keep it "Just in case" I want to take a trailer down a real hard route. Unfortunately, it just sits. If I go somewhere I don't want to take my enclosed trailer, I end up just sleeping in the back of my cruiser. My wife keeps telling me to sell it but.....IDK. I've been...
I ran my cargo trailer/RTT for years. My decision to go to a teardrop/square drop was based on foul weather and moving (non base camp) trips (set up and tear down times). The only down side to my enclosed trailer is over all size. I absolutely love it for base camping though. All I have left to...
Well. Your call.
The ring and pinion is the same as my 80. My axles are stronger being solid vs independent which makes the diff the weak link. I take things like that I read on MUD with a big grain of salt.
Just for giggles I went into Toyota's data base and found no mention. If it was an...
