2 hours into my latest expedition, my 2007 Ford Expedition blew a motor (think it threw a rod). After nearly 15 years and 181k miles, it was time to let Elmo go.
Enter the 2019 4WD 4Runner SR5 Premium / TRD / TRD Pro (so the VIN description says). And, daddy’s got new wheels!!
Blank canvas...
Update: Kitchen box is done (except lid lift arm and lid latch). Definitely going to be a base camp type box and not a mobile in and out camp
kitchen. Fun build and painted in my favorite outdoor / adventuring OD green (20 years in the Marine Corps had no influence whatsoever). Has a primer coat...
Thanks! And, you’re right, it’s not as lightweight as I would like. But, I used soft pine and thin skin. It is also not intended for mobile camping as much as base camp use.
Built this to replace a couple of tubs and having to carry the camp stove separate. With exception of some hardware, built with whatever I could find around my garage.
Not complete - obviously- but at a point I could use it if I needed to. Will add a sliding cover for the drawers and pot cubby...
Saw this Kitchen 24 set on a GSI website after seeing the GSI Pot and Pan set on the “Two- Minute Camp Kitchen Setup” on the OB channel and, voila, it appeared under the tree for Christmas.
Just one more reason to get outside soon.

This is Elmo. 2007 Expedition XLT EL. (2WD). Much more work to do. 178K miles.
If you’re looking for a bumper, check out Ironbull Bumpers. Talk to Johnnie. Only off-road bumper I found that would fit an expedition.
Some minor things left - like trimming the wheel well liners to profile, running the winch line and attaching the fair lead.
But the Ironbull Defender 4 bumper and X20 12K winch are installed.
Thanks - the build is going well. A bit slower than I would like, but still pretty well.
Ironbull is the only bumper I could find that would fit the 2007 Expedition. Which is fine, because it is the style and look I was after. Hope to have installed by Saturday.
Started working on my 2007 Ford Expedition a few months ago after selling my 1989 YJ.
This is the chronicle of Elmo’s Evolution.
To get up to date:
-Painted stock wheels black Rust o Leum Bed Liner
-Powerstop slotted and drilled front brake rotors and pads
-Rola Cargo rack with extension...
Sold my 1989 Jeep YJ and the money is being used to ruggedize my 2007 Expedition aka Elmo.
Some of my upgrades
Rancho 9000’s Quicklifts all the way around. Pioneer in dash GPS with backup camera.
And a home for my Smittybilt X20 12K winch - an Ironbull Defender 4 bumper.
There will be...
First, it was an honor to serve.
Second, appreciate the advice and I have posted in the new member thread. Have already been contacted as well. Looking forward to getting involved and getting back outdoors.
Good luck on the Pathfinder build.
