For some reason, the net has largely defaulted to me running it.
If we had more people volunteering to run the net it would be able to run more regularly.
Everyone with a HAM licence is qualified to run the net. In fact, it is an excellent way for new HAMs to get operating confidence.
This...
Hello Everyone,
I'll be on the *USA-GNG* Echolink server from 20:30 Eastern time, and 17:30 Pacific time.
The net will happen, providing there is at least 1 other participant.
Please join us.
The topic can be anything related to Overlanding and HAM radio, or just check-in for a chat.
G'day,
I am just wondering if Tasmanian OB members are monitoring this forum?
Post a reply to let me know you're out there.
I'm also keen to know if you think the OB forum is the best way to disperse information or should we set up a Facebook group like OB Queensland.
I'd also like to know...
G'Day,
The Friday night net can no longer run on the *STARLINK* Echolink Server and there will be no net tonight (April-8)
I'll be hanging out tonight on the old *USA-GNG* server if anybody would like to contact me with feedback on what happens next.
My vehicle isn't available in the US, so it won't help you much. But the VW "Computer with a 4wd van attached" regulates the average fuel usage to around 26mpg (9l/100km).
I don't push it that hard, fuel is too expensive nowadays, but supposedly if you drive it too hard the ECU lowers...
I think the gauge / digital versions are designed to override your version and convince you that your rig won't really fall over for another 1 degree of angle.
I’m currently on the road so I haven’t done a detailed tour of the van for the forum yet.
You should check out my Ships and Ghost Towns post.

If you were in a place, known for its warm dry climate, cattle, rodeos, even some historical border disputes and it was called Texas you would be in well, Texas, right?
But this Texas is not Texas in the USA, it's Texas in Queensland Australia.
I'm currently travelling to meet some other Overland Bound Members in Queensland.
For those who don't know my home in Tasmania, is a 336 mile, 10-hour boat ride to Melbourne in Victoria in Mainland Australia. The ship I was on is the same as the one in the photo which we passed halfway.
I...
Hello Eric,
There are a number of repeaters that connect to the net.
Please go to White Mountain Repeater Association and select "connections". The repeaters are listed towards the bottom of the page (scroll down).
The net probably won't run this week (Feb - 4), unless someone takes over...
It would be great if the rest of the Tassie members were a little more active. Maybe we just need a few more members, like yourself, to make the critical mass.
You could tell everyone a bit more about yourself on a profile post and even what you would like to do.
It would be great to have an...
I sometimes cringe at the term "off-roading".
To me "off-roading" is to drive where there is not, or has never been a road. Destroying the vegetation and making new tyre tracks in the untouched ground. Another description that was used here in Australia was 'bush-bashing". It is an activity to...
I'm in the same mindset as Costa, with the Dempster I can drive all the way to the Arctic Ocean (a bucket list item for me). I'd certainly like to go to all the places other than Prudhoe Bay.
This week's net was run by myself Randall VK7VWK from Tasmania Australia

Sound's like Oregon doesn't like RV travellers (or overlanders). I've stayed quite a few nights at Oregon State Parks, at the sites with the electrical hookup, not that I needed the hookup, but it was the only type of site that you can sleep near/in/on your vehicle.
In the US, I'd like to go to quite a few of the National Parks, and Monuments, lots of which have been mentioned in this thread although I don't think I'll have too much time in the East.
I intend to spend a fair amount of time in Canada and Tuktoyuktuk is high on the list of places to go. I'd...
