@Reconnoiter-Very tempting. I'm working tonight until 0600 ( I have trips to pay for!!!) and then after a couple hours sleep in the am I'm going to try and meet up with @Mademan925 an and Lisa at Joshua Tree for the day.

You can also check out the Reward Mine in that area. It's an old mine that you can drive about 1/4 mile into (depending on your vehicle, my lifted Jeep Jk fits) lots of YouTube videos on this.

@Deadman Offroad , Alabama Hills has some decent trails and excellent camping. You should also look at Dedekera Canyon/Steel Pass To Warm Springs( also good camping with natural springs you can go in) on the west side of Death Valley. This is more of challenge and my "go to" get away.

I've been using the Ram mounts for iPhone, GPS, and iPad for awhile and never needed the rubber strap. They grip is incredible.

A little pricey but so far well worth it. As a RTR I was surprised at the articulation and how well it climbs.
