Keep in mind that Anderson offers both dust covers and full rubber environment boots for many of their plugs. I use both in different situations. No trouble so far.

Depending on what your options are for power outlets you could just replace the plug with something more positive like an Anderson SB50. if the ciggy socket is the only option available then never mind my suggestion.

Stick to the lithium iron phosphate (LiFe) for vehicle and solar use. LiPo (lithium polymer) is great in r/c use due to light weight and energy density but they are very volatile and definitely not suited for overlanding. Even a small amount of damage can cause a catastrophic fire...
