The BEAST is UNLEASHED!!! I took the FrankenJeep for my first road trial earlier this week. I have managed my expectations throughout this build, from how long it would take (covid in the middle), to how it would handle and ride versus the serviceability, parts availability and reliability. I...
Okayyyy... so it's been more than a couple of minutes since I updated ya'll on the status. Lots of reasons but no good excuses... Just life! That, plus there wasn't a whole lot of progress to report for a while. The crew at my preferred shop (that's Performance Offroad in Alexandria, Ky) have...
For Sale -- NW FL – 2014 Toyota Tacoma, Pro Shop Build - $15k cash / cashier’s check
Posting here for the Overland Bound community first!
This 2014 Toyota Tacoma was built as a "light overland" camping platform. It was mildly modified toward that purpose. Truck has spent nearly all it’s life...
Well, to tell you all something that you all already know... 2020 sucked. 2021 was a little better. Now here we are mid-way through 2022 and we're mostly embedded in our new "normal". I hope all of you who were/are following this build thread are safe and healthy.
As you might imagine, the...
And, to preserve it for posterity, here's a look at the engine mount angle. Haven't measured it in its final testing place, but its within Cummins spec. The angle and the "depth" its mounted down between the frame rails helped to keep the top deck out of the hood sheet metal, as well as...
Aaannnddd, a nice view of the cooler clearance and modular mounting for the cooler assemblies. Like everything else on the FrankenJeep TJ8, everything is being put together with an eye toward modularity and maintenance/replacement.
I think this is the 5th or 6th iteration of radiator and intercooler configuration. The CAC is up front where it "belongs", even though the turbo and coolant inlets are gonna look like a bowl of spaghetti dumped on a toddler's head.
Hmmm... says I've achieved Road Ranger 1... well, that's a 47RH (hydraulic) and an ATLAS IV baby! Though, I admit... a Road Ranger in a 1 Ton FrankenJeep would be a task worthy of an award!
Looks a bit like a Super Cub with tundra tires in this pic. That's due to the wide angle shot... those are normal 35-12.5s. Been waiting for brake lines, various diesel plumbing parts. Most of that nit-noid stuff is in now. Hopefully the next time you see a full body shot, she'll have her...
Mo-closer look for those of us with old peepers. SpeedHut custom... I've heard positives and negatives... we'll see how they do and if they suck, I'll let the OB community know!
yeah, she's sloooooowly going back together for the last time now. We created some interesting challenges with water and intercooler piping in the front, so were waiting on some fittings. Dash layout is done (in cardboard) and the dash and steering column are ready to go in, then the wiring...
Appears from the photos to be 1/2 or 3/4 plywood (can't remember how tall the corner stacking brackets are). I've done this on a few cases using UHMW or HDPE plastic... makes for a good kitchen prep board. ~doc
Zarges are definitely top-notch. Used them during my military service as well, though at that time weren't as popular as the Hardigg style. I personally liked the fact that there wasn't so much lost space in the Zarges vs rotomolded.
i'm open, at this time, to both hard exterior and soft covered (I've got some experience with custom canvas work).
On one hand, I'm playing around with some designs for a convertible canvas covering over an aluminum or steel rack system (rack similar-ish) to what is on the back of the...
Looked all over for a thread about M1101 or 1102 based camping trailers. Found several noted in other threads, but wondering if there might be more out there lurking. Please post up pics of your 1101/1102 based builds!
Disclaimer: I'm going to shamelessly borrow and co-op the best ideas for...
Will be used for both the mobile rig as well as providing the battery bank for my off grid cabin. First few years of my retirement will be living off the back of the rig and in the cabin, so it's not an occasional-use scenario.
that's an awesome channel... I hadn't seen it before. I appreciate the redirect! That will be my weekend entertainment. I found a great deal on Fortune 100Ah cells hybrid car cells. Have 48 of them on the way. Once I get this 300lb behemoth built, I'll post up pics. Probably going to...
