We've got a really kick ass GMRS repeater here locally. Covers nearly a 50 mile radius. I can talk from the east edge of Dallas County (rockwall) to my house with ease with a mobile. I can sit at my kitchen table and chat with any of my handhelds even with the power turned down to 1 watt I get...
My issue with Midland handhelds (and I own 2 sets for handout radios and for the kids) is they still don't have any models that work with repeaters. To me that's a big oversight on their part.
Subscribed. Always in for a CJ build :D Are you saying you're getting rid of the 258 parts? I've gota 4.0 here that I've been considering doing a stroker build on.
Not in my garage but this morning the glass guy showed up at work and put a new windshield in my CJ5. The 46 year old windshield was so scratched driving in the dark was a game of driving via braile when heading towards other headlights. The light would dazzle you.
The CCC is responsible for a ton of work everywhere. Nearly everything about the National Forests was built on the backs and by the hands of CCC workers.
They're fine. You won't have the brand power at camp but you'll at least have the equipment. Their cheap tool bags are perfect to hold a few shackles and a strap. I have one bag that's two shackles a 30 foot strap and a pair of gloves, another bag has a Ditch Pig kinetic rope with 2 soft...
The NOAA weather frequencies aren't different between CB, HAM or GMRS/FRS. In other words the infrastructure to transmit this information isn't any different, only the boxes the receivers are in and the antennas you receive it on. These transmitters operate around 1000 watts so even the little...
Got the master cylinder and calipers replaced, rebled the brakes on my brother's CJ7. One step closer to getting this thing out of my garage lol. I also took the repro fender flares I removed off my CJ5 and replaced the front flares that were basically falling off. I'll be doing the rears...
Google maps has been far better at this over the last, I dunno decade now? It warns me of backups and gives me routing around it. And yes there are areas where you won't have cell signal on highways but those aren't typically areas where traffic backups are an issue.
I can swap a CB into my 2nd radio spot in my center console in a few minutes and many times I'll run it for weeks at a time and never hear anything on it. And I'm on I-30 and I-635 for 40+ miles of my commute.
Get one of those gravity fed filter bags and just hang it over the tank. You can also rig something up using a RV pump and a Sawyer filter with some flexible PVC tubing and just break it out when you need it. Put a pre filter on the suction end that goes in the water to protect the pump and...
I prefer AGM\SLA if for nothing else than to cut down on corrosive gasses in the engine compartment. On certain vehicles like my wife's van that we won't own for a long time I don't really care, but for my 76 CJ and my 95 XJ I prefer to not have corrosive gasses and liquids flying around the...
Just checked I got to about 30,000 miles on them when I changed them out. Like I said they still had useable tread when I changed them out. I have no doubt I could have got to at least 40k, IIRC when I changed them they were still at the top edge of "yellow" zone of my tire depth gauge.
