My vehicle is CAKED in hardened mud!

LOL - I've been turned away from those before. They said I had too much mud and it would clog their drains... DIY with a pressure washer (<1500PSI) and undercarriage attachment is probably best. The key is to do it as soon as you can, don't let it sit for an extended period.

Box Talk: Thule/Yakima cargo vs. all the other boxes people put on their rooves.

My guess would be form-factor and use case. The Wolfpack/box style is smaller and modular, whereas the Thule/Yakima are basically fixed to the rack, though more capacity and aerodynamic. Personally, I prefer the smaller boxes as they are more flexible.

Excellent list. JB Weld is definitely a must, as is a tube of gasket sealer. Land Rover ownership and overlanding necessitate my trail repair kit/preparedness/paranoia...

    The Original Overlanders

Henry Ford and friends, including Thomas Edison, pioneered repurposing industrial waste from the production of the Model T into charcoal briquettes, partly inspired from their 'overlanding' experiences. Who Made That Charcoal Briquette? - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

    Beginner questions!!

Multimeter is definitely part of a basic kit every overlander should carry, especially with newer rigs. I also carry spare hoses and a fuel pump, but haven't had to use any, yet.

    Beginner questions!!

Good point about safety, but with anything, one should be aware of how to use tools. Hi-lifts are more versatile than bottle-jacks, but they are also bulkier, not to mention posing more risks. I have both, but only carry the Hi-Lift when going off-road. However, in a winching situation, they...

    Beginner questions!!

You can also use a Hi-Lift jack as a mechanical winch. Just a fraction of the cost of a winch. Probably good to get a Hi-Lift before a winch, but also some decent tow straps. This would be the most basic recovery gear. You can also buy a used good winch on the cheap and recondition/repair...

    Beginner questions!!

Tech is constantly changing, so being flexible is must. We are in the midst of a huge change from ICE to EV, but batteries have also changed a lot and lithium is not as expensive up front as it once was. Bottom line, don't be so invested in a technology that may limit your overlanding options.

    OB Watches

Has anyone used the Leatherman Tread watch? Just saw that these are being discounted and looks interesting with EDC tool band. It's a quartz movement, but then again, my Suunto uses a battery as well... https://www.leatherman.com/black-silver-tread-tempo-lt-674.html

Any gatherings related to aid hurricane Ian victims?

As previously mentioned, let the pros deal with the immediate work. The best thing would be to coordinate with relief orgs like Cajun Navy or Samaritan's Purse. Usually, they come in after the dust has settled a bit. There will be plenty of work to do and overlanding rigs can still be...

^^x2. EAS actually helps with articulation. More importantly, the self-leveling prevents sags when towing & improves cornering. I’ve gone from EAS to coils, and I regret it. I will never replace EAS with coils again.
