    Freedom Camping NZ question ...

Hi folks, we are traveling to NZ in December and have rented a camper. The camper is certified self contained (green sticker). Now, I'm trying to find out where I can actually camp with this. My first understanding is "everywhere, unless it's restricted or prohibited", either by DOC or by...

FOR SALE Maxtrax Trailer Skid – Offroad Trailer Recovery Tool

So, I've checked shipping cost and it's just outrageous. This unfortanetly leads to make this an in-person only. I'm happy to go on a roadtrip in California to bring it closer to you, but it looks like shipping is near impossible for larger items and private persons these days.

    induction cooking?

From a real life perspective: We just came back from a two months trip to Canada and Alaska. We've used the induction cooktop all the time. Same with the electric kettle. We also used the inverter to charge our electric toothbrush and a few other things that aren't 12V or USB capable. We often...

    OsmAnd and iOverlander

FYI: I made some changes, started input and output validation, and a lot of other cleanup. So, you might want to do a pull on the repository before you really start looking at the code. There should be zero change in the actual conversion, but the code is cleaner and it should be slightly more...

Small 110 volt Toaster Oven Do you use one?

Makes sense. I'm very happy with the Kickass Travel Oven for my usecase. It takes forever, but I don't care. It runs while I'm driving, or I start a cook when I get to the camp and have dinner later. It just works for us.

Small 110 volt Toaster Oven Do you use one?

The two problems with this is: it's MASSIVE, very large compared to the simple travel oven (e.g. Kickass) and it is massively complex. Run this thing over a few thousand miles of corrugated roads and you can probably open a new Fry's electronic parts store ... We would have had absolutely zero...

I've started doing some small things here and there, nothing big, some docs, some cleanup. Still traveling, so I'm not spending much time on it.

So, I've added minimal information on how to use the tool, but you still need to able to run Golang and be comfortable on the commandline. https://github.com/cug/wp_converter This is super simple, has no input validation, no tests and might not even work with the lastest versions of the CSV...

I’m currently on a trip, but in the next few days I can make the GitHub repo public. Be aware: no tests of code or data integrity. This is a quick and dirty hack.

It’s pulling around 10A. So, the higher the voltage you supply, the hotter it gets. Up to a point of course. Ours does about 132W.

Most Expensive Thing That You Have Broken

There is always a chance … I nearly broke something more expensive. Was working at one of the large tech companies as a server engineer at the time and luckily avoided a full scale outage that would have cost in the millions per minute … luckily it was caught just before it went out, because it...

    induction cooking?

Oh, and the other good thing: You now have enough power to do other things as well. We boil water with an electric kettle, use a 12V heater fan to warm the water and battery compartments when there is a chance of freezing temperatures, indoor and outdoor lighting etc. Also, charging eletronics...

    induction cooking?

I'm using induction cooking and I'm never going back. But, and that's a big but for some folks, there are certain circumstances that make induction cooking perfectly viable: We run two 100Ah batteries and a 2000W inverter that can easily support the needed power for an 1800W induction plate...

We love our's. We mainly use to warm up leftovers while driving and have them ready for a break.

    How Bad Are American Vehicles

I would avoid any American truck except the Ford Ranger if you’re going outside of the US with it. But that might just be me, who doesn’t want to either look like a rich American or a drug dealer in other countries. At least get something old and beat up looking if it has to be such a big truck...

And make sure you can get a carnet de passage if the vehicle is registered to an LLC. And be aware that a Carnet in the US is about $2k, 8 to 10x the usual price in the world.
