We enjoy all the seasons and try to get out as much as possible and away from the challenges of modern society. . . after all. . . comfort is an illusion. . .
Well. . . assuming your GAWR for your XD is around 4500 lbs., you would need a wheel rated at 2250 lbs or higher. I'm guessing the wheels you're looking at are all rated at 2500lbs or higher.
I would only spend the money if you plan on airing down to the low teens or single digits on a semi-regular or regular basis. I navigate some pretty tough terrain in the Rockies and AZ/Utah deserts running at 22-24 psi and very rarely go down to the extreme lows where bead-locks are really needed.
I don't feel the sidewall ply is a bigger factor than your anticipated lowest tire pressure, rim width to tread width and bead seat size for the wheels you are considering. I have busted beads in deep sand and snow The biggest factor in my experience is the low tire pressure and type of...
I run bead-locks because the trails I frequent are often muddy, deep sand, or deep snow, and when when airing down to single digits for these conditions, it minimizes the chance of throwing a bead off. In my experience, they aren't needed if you only plan to air down 25% or more of your...
We keep a couple of these around with 5 lb bottles on the ranch to assist our older diesel trucks and tractors on sub-zero days. Fire it up and set it near or under the front bumper pointed toward the oil pan. We deflect the heat with a small tin sheet on some of the lower vehicles. It's also...
I would love to connect and take a ride in your rig sometime to compare. I have plans to stop by Alcan Springs in Fruita Colorado to get their opinion and recommendations if I do decide to go with a new pack. They are local to me and very well respected too.
The Peak Suspension Add-A-Leaf has met and exceeded all my expectations for how I use my rig and how it's configured. I considered having custom leaf packs built for the added weight of my build but decided to go with the Add-A-Leaf based on the advice of from Peak. They stated the Add-A-Leave...
My answer was - " If you configure the suspension and drivetrain to match, you will experience a significant increase in off-road capability going from 265s to 285s" -
Apples to Oranges???? Pretty clear in my opinion. . . you and others chose to make it about manufacturer and tread type only...
To clarify - - - my opinion was based on tire size only not manufacturer. I have destroyed every manufacture of tire you can imagine and have no loyalty to any specific one. The OPs question was related to size and I believe my reply was specific to that point. My mistake was to detail my...
OP Question: " Is going to a 285 and getting the body chop on the front going to help me all that much"
Akicita Answer: Yes it will
@Renegade . . . what did I miss?
My experience is objective over 45+ years of off-road experience on dozens upon dozens of different types of vehicles, tires and tire manufacturers in every enviromental condition imaginable on 6 different continents. The pictures includes are the latest example of my most recent build and...
I respect the number crunchers and opinions of everyone who has replied; however, I am going to opine on my subject matter experience only . . . If you configure the suspension and drivetrain to match, you will experience a significant increase in off-road capability going from 265s to 285s. I...
The medium my son runs is six ft. When he closes the tailgate, it compresses it some and is not difficult to do so. You can get "kid" RV mattresses on Amazon that are 5ft. I have used these in a few van builds for clients' kids and grandkids' but have never tried them myself.
