ARB fridge runs off a Goal Zero Lithium 400 which is recharged when vehicle is on. Portable solution allows me to move to other vehicles, and is full contained in cargho area (LC200, Sequoia, etc).
The best one is whatever the most other people you want to communicate with are using. That can be CB, HAM, FRS, GMRS, Cell, etc. Thinking there is only one is myopic.
What actually goes on at this event?
Very few vendors, 1 scheduled presenter doing an AAR, no food vendors, The blog has no posts?
Guess with the Big three overland events (2 in Sept, 1 week after this), this event got no traction from the industry.
How does a simple suggestion to send a reminder in this thread turn into such crap show?
Jeez no wonder nobody comes to meeting if they read this thread
My Goal Zero 400 Lithium runs my ARB Fridge for 3 days if inside. This was bench tested as I have never gone 3 days without turning the vehicle on, at which point it switches to car power.
Not much right near DFW (other than LBJ Grasslands), but some great places elsewhere in Texas, Big Bend, NP, Big Bend SP and Padre Island to start. Then Palo Duro Canyon, and from DFW many places in Oklahoma and Arkansas which are actually closer then Big Bend Area.
HAM is great in big places like Big Bend and you can use a repeater to talk from one end of park to another in places with no cell service. Also the Dual Band feature so you can use your HH to talk to your vehicle to repeater is another feature.
Amps drawn by winch and amp-hrs rating of battery are two different things. His 170AH battery can draw 170A for 1 hr, 340A for 1/2 hr, 680A for 15 minutes etc, under perfect conditions. So he has plenty of battery unless it is a massive winch job.
