I would recommend coming to Colorado for the mountains: to travel the amazing high elevation 4WD roads and camp by the mountain lakes, etc.
The Great Sand Dunes are interesting in the way they were formed and that they are in the mountains. For me, they would be a side trip and not the main...

In case you're not aware, there are several rafting companies between Canon City (Royal Gorge) and Buena Vista. I once rafted through the canyon under the Royal Gorge Bridge. We used Echo Canyon, but I'm sure others are just as good. The Royal Gorge park has it's own fast zip line...
How set are you on this route?
Along the lines of the previous poster, have you thought about heading straight for the Colorado Rockies to beat the heat, running some amazing trails then heading straight home when your time runs out?
BTW, my wife loves the Pagosa Hot Springs.

I love Stony Pass as well, but it may be too far out of your way.
There are several other amazing trails in the immediate vicinity of those you've mentioned that you might consider if you have the time..... Probably too many to list easily.

It's more gear than I like to bring now that I have a satellite communicator. We'd have to really be sure we were going to use it. :)
