Opinions wanted on practicality of towing a trailer.

On another post I commented on how most of the off road trailers are being built. You have a trailer company taking a light weight trailer, adding off road tires and selling it as an off road trailer. Street trailers are built to haul weight. If you buy a trailer rated for 3500 pounds, you get...

Opinions wanted on practicality of towing a trailer.

I've been off-road/overlanding with trailers for a several decades. They stared out as something to haul gear and material in while maintaining black diamond trails. Over the years I turned my M-100 trailer into more of a camping trailer eventually outfitting it with an RTT. About five years...

    Backyard's M416 Overland Trailer Build!

The lid itself, no. Early in this post I have some pictures but they have the rtt mounted on it. I had it set up to open from the side to allow access when the RTT was deployed. The RTT would fold on the ladder side.

    Backyard's M416 Overland Trailer Build!

perfect. I made the frame out of 1" thin square. 2" angle around the sides to give it a lip, diamond plate for the top and gas struts to help open and close. My only area that had sealing issues was my tailgate. This spring when I rebuild it, The entire box is getting replaced with a sealing...

    Backyard's M416 Overland Trailer Build!

This was also an issue when I got my trailer. I ended up having to cut off the rounded metal and replacing it with square. The reason was two fold. First was what it was going to take to repair and second, I wanted a sealed lid.

    Propane distribution

I did it on both my trailers. Not difficult. I use quick release fittings and ball valves on both ends. You can use fittings rated for air but I like the brass propane ones better. Going through sheet metal you can get threaded bulkhead fittings, also in brass. For the lines, on my M-100 I used...

    New 2024 Taco OffRoad

Aware of what the OP said. Didn't intend to insult. Sorry. I do find it amusing that people even comment on the poor fuel milage. My statement holds true. You don't buy a Toyota truck for milage and sometimes power. You buy it for the quality.

    New 2024 Taco OffRoad

Had to chuckle here. Toyota has a couple of the best gas milage vehicles out there and a couple of the worse. Guess which category SUV/trucks are in? You don't buy a Toyota truck for the fuel milage, you buy it because it will out live you if you take care of it.

    Tire recommendations

If you spend any time in the Mojave, make sure you have a good sidewall. Nittos do well, KO2's. I'm running Falcons right now and they seem to be holding up to my abuse very well. Your tire should be based on how and where you drive. See what others in our area run and look to those.

Heated Camp Shower vs. Powered Cooler/Freezer/Fridge

Fridge. I use my shower for longer trips. I do more short trips, hardly use the shower. Never having to deal with ice has been a game changer.

    Storing Portable Power Station

This exactly. Don't rely on what others tell you. E-mail the manufacture. As you can see there's a difference of opinion. If you store them incorrectly and there's an issue, the company doesn't have to warranty the unit. Information can change as things evolve. What someone tells you may no...

AGM Batteries - Which one’s should I buy for my FZJ80 dual setup?

I run Odyssey. I've tried about every battery manufacture out there. These give me no issues and last longer. I'm forced to use interstate at work. Horrible batteries. We use them in everything from car's to medium duty. I'm also not easy on my batteries. That's probably why the lesser ones...

Powered water can Update 2/11 for new pump and battery.

UPDATE Been using this for about a year. The only drawback has been water flow. I finally found a good pump (took 3). This one also upgraded the battery pack to twice the size. I still velcro it to the side but it's a bit heavy. It "stays" in place but I need to make a holder of some kind (OCD...

DIY Portable welder/ Self powered welder. Updated 2/11

New update. I finally finished the portable battery part. I'm just going to post pictures and not a whole part break down. If anyone wants to build one, message me and I'll get you a part list. You could also use the info to build your own battery bank for camping. As it turns out, most of the...

    Backyard's M416 Overland Trailer Build!

I use Dexter axles. You order it in whatever length, leaf spring perch's where you want them and backing plate with park brake.. All you need to do then is see if your current brake cable has the correct ends, if not, their easy to change.

First Attempt at DIY fire pit

I've made a few. In the DIY section somewhere is my build on them. I haven't updated it but I now do smaller holes and a few less. I would say an air mixer is a must. Propane will give off soot if not kept hot enough. Mine is mounted inside the can. My first fire pit is made from the bottom...

    Diesel heat

Most of my group has the Vevor. easy to use and pretty quiet. Fuel usage is minimal. I think I use just over a quart if I run it all night on low. "If" your luck enough to get a working thermostat, it does you no good if the controller is mounted to the unit (all in 1). Across the board, the...

    Backyard's M416 Overland Trailer Build!

If you want to change spring length go longer. You can order custom axle widths and have the perch's put where you want them. Most trailer shops will do this. All of my axles are custom width.
