rig weight, how do you pack?

I completely agree, and I thought about buying a regular cab before I decided to SAS this truck. But I've had this truck like 12 years now and love it, and honestly the back seat space is kind of needed with a Fourwheel Camper. There's not a TON of storage inside of them. -TJ

rig weight, how do you pack?

My rig is heavy, for sure. But it's a 3/4 ton and everything I pick in terms of parts are meant to carry the weight. From the wheels/tires to the air bag setup in the rear to all of the solid axle swap and steering components they're all "over-built". If there was some magic way to take 1k...

US West Northbay Meet/Trip - Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Lake

Alright, I'm 100% I can make it now, and I took Friday the 26th off too so I'm in for a Fri-Sun trip. -TJ

US West Northbay Meet/Trip - Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Lake

I'll have it all covered, including a variety of salsas and things like that. But if you have a favorite you can't do without, feel free to bring that. When we get closer and get a tighter head-count I can let folks know if there's anything I need, but I don't expect I will. Thanks though! -TJ

US West Northbay Meet/Trip - Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Lake

Right on, we'll just see as it gets closer. And I have some ideas for a vegetarian option for the taco night too... going to do some more research on that since I've never really cooked vegetarian but I like the challenge (and for the rest of y'all... don't worry there will be meat lol). -TJ

What are you renting? I have some gear that I don't need to utilize now that I have my Fourwheel Camper and wouldn't mind bringing a few things if it helps. -TJ

Okay... I'm IN! I am probably going to have that Friday free if anybody is interested in making this a 2-nighter. Also, how does the group feel about me throwing down a taco night? -TJ

US West Weekend Escape To Leavitt Lake August 5-7th

Excellent. Let me firm things up tomorrow and report back. If I make it I'll make a big "taco night" for the potluck. EDIT: just saw pulled pork and carnitas are on the potluck list already, so I can still do taco night and do carne and/or pollo... but I have other options as well. Anyway...

US West Weekend Escape To Leavitt Lake August 5-7th

I see 5 spots are still open, if I can go I'd only be able to make it for Sat/Sun... is that allowable? I'd be happy to throwdown a big contribution to Saturday night's potluck. ;) -TJ

    I’m bringing too much

Extra points if you also use the same can to store your bacon fat from breakfast, then use it to cook dinner and make your cocktail in it after you scoop the fat out... -TJ

Awesome, congrats! Haha, well I have a few ideas so once I'm 100% I'll post up so this time folks know what will be available and can choose to cook for themselves or not. -TJ

Did you "baseline" your rig for overlanding, or just drive it and fix what was broke?

My WJ has turned into a bit more of a wheeler (but I still fully intend to "Overland" out of it) and my primary Overlander is my '11 Chevy 2500. I've had it since new (so nearly 12 years now) and it's live many different lives as a DD, a 5th wheel tow rig, and now an "Overlanding" rig. So I...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

I you ever decide you want another one, look out west. You could get one here and drive it back. Most here are 100% rust free. Mine didn't have a spec, like not even surface rust. Underneath it looked like I imagine it did the day it rolled off the assembly line. -TJ

    Running power trailer.

This. My SoCal Teardrop just charged via the 7-pin, which is okay if you tend to spend a long time driving between stops, but has a pretty limited amp capacity. My Fourwheel Camper uses a trolling-motor connector (as you said, Marine-grade) and a resettable breaker and is a much better setup...

    My rant for the day...

I cannot tell you how pleased I am that this thread turned into an Idiocracy quote thread! I love that movie, though sometimes I feel like it will be shown as a cautionary warning by whatever society replaces ours when it finally fails, lol. -TJ

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

I definitely agree that popular opinion is the H233B is bullet-proof, and we all the internet mostly wants to complain so if all you find is positive feedback it must truly be a great axle. -TJ

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

Couldn't agree more. The XJ is a legend, and for good reason. The problem is "the cat is out of the bag" and, at least around me, all XJs have either shot up in price or have been beaten to death. With all 3 if you live in a rust-belt area there are rust-related structural problems. I'd...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

Where exactly are you finding that the H233B is a version of a Dana 60? Again, it seems to be a drop-out 3rd member design, which means fundamentally it's as different from a Dana 60 as is actually possible. Don't get me wrong, I like drop-out 3rd member designs (and so does most of the world...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

I'm not a Nissan expert by any means, but are you sure the X got a Dana 60? That's generally a 1-ton (sometimes 3/4 ton) axle in the Domestic world. Heck my 702HP 6300lbs RAM TRX has a "hybrid" rear axle that is a Dana 60 center but with smaller outers and AFAIK it's the only 1500 that has...
