Funny I clicked into this thread to comment something like "great platform" and thought to check if I had earlier, and sure enough I had! The funny thing is since then I moved back to a full size for Overlanding myself: Going back to a Full Size for my Overlanding
Anyway, I'm sure the new...
Thanks for the response Dave! FWIW the pic above was on White Rim trail at Moab. I imagine you've run it, just as a gauge I didn't find anything on it challenging nor did the truck. I'll research the trails on this trip more but it sounds like we should be good. As far as camping spots, I...
Hey @Dave Purvis I'm interested in joining you for the trip, but want to make sure my rig is suitable:
It's a 2011 Silverado 2500HD (Duramax/Allison) with a solid front axle conversion (WFO radius-arm kit with a '05+ Super Duty Dana 60 and Fox coil overs), 37x13.5" M/Ts, 4.56s, ARBs front and...
It should be decently spicy... as mentioned I'm running the stock 6.1 SRT8 heads, cam (which is small for the 426 cubic inches this thing is, but should be a torque monster, it's 221/225, 0.571/0.551 on around a 117 which is actually bigger than Comp's first couple aftermarket cams for the...
That's completely wrong. Look up "fullsizeinvasion" on IG. I run a '11 Silverado 2500 with a Fourwheel Camper on the back, it's solid front axle swapped and has 37"s, 4.56s, and ARBs front and rear. I do some pretty "hardcore" trails with a camper on the back...

I prob should explain the longblock you see *in* the Jeep in the engine mount pics is a bad 5.7 junkyard motor for mock-up. There are no additional inspection holes in the 5.7, so when the project is all done I might just refresh it to sell... or a future project? I sure would like to find a...
426 GenIII finally starting to come together, everything is done at the machine shop and back in our hands:
Bore is 4.065" using street/high performance gap we come to: 0.0183 for top and 0.0224 for bottom so we'll go 0.02/0.024 top/bottom:
Obviously the assembly was...
Awesome, I'll definitely take you up on that sometime. I'm trying to put something together for Mon-Wed before TDay, maybe Gold Butte. Have you explored out there? And yes, I'll be in Vegas for Thanksgiving.

There's no single "right answer" to that question, other than "it depends." It depends on the exact weight and CG of your rig when complete. It depends on the exact trail and conditions in any given instance where tipping is possible. It depends on what changes you've made to track-width...
I wish I could, and I appreciate the offer but I'm taking all of Thanksgiving week itself off, so I can't get those days at the start of the next week.

Not super "overlanding" since it was at a semi-developed BLM site, but I took the Xterra and ground tent out for a quick one this weekend:
My other rig is at home in Vegas but I was stuck in Palo Alto for the weekend but still wanted to get out.
