    Be Aware: Overlanding is Exhausting

Hmmm, I find the opposite to be true. Overlanding invigorates my body, spirit & mind. Otherwise my wife & I would not be in a constant state of either overlanding ( which we do part time 10-12 weeks out per year ) or planning our next trips. However, there are times when we are out that we...

    Trasharoo or Campcover?

Wow, only a year? I did saturate mine every spring with UV and general weather repellent. And, we always used plastic garbage bags .

    Suspension options

I agree, I followed behind a trailer with independent suspension. All of the articulation happens at the hitch. The entire trailer articulates, just as my solid axle trailer articulates at the hitch. I’d love to see a film or a lecture on physics that would prove me wrong because I do enjoy...

    Trasharoo or Campcover?

10 years ago we purchased a Trasharoo. The bag lived on the tire of our garage queen which is used for about 14,000 miles of travels per year. So it endured about 3 months of full exposure to the elements per year. One of the seams near a strap up top has dry rotted . Bummer, I asked my...

    GMRS

Very true, never bothered with hand held either. It took me a couple years to stop being pig headed and send the old Cobra into the landfill and switch to GMRS. Mines pretty ordinary with a weak antenna and still gets out 20 miles or so.

    GMRS

I’m obviously, once again, the oddball. When we are traveling with others, and talking, I’ll get it out there once in a while. When we get way off grid, I’ll key up on occasion, and announce, “WRPN506 monitoring channel 21 “ or whatever chanel I happen to be using. I used a CB for decades...

    Suspension options

I’m curious about this too. I ran an undersized axle for about a year and two bearing blow outs, then stepped up to a 3500 lb axle. I can’t imagine the forces needed to actually break an axle.

    Tyre Recommendations

Any one of the three Gs. Goodyear, Goodrich or General; Goodyear owns Cooper so that is a go to as well. I’ve never been able to justify the cost of the gourmet tires. I’ve used Goodyear for street tires for decades, Goodrich AT tires since the early 80s , then switched to Generals. I...

    Vehicle Opinions

You are correct, I don’t do a very good job of putting in text what is on my mind. I spent 3/4 of my life trusting the big 3 automakers, only to get burned each and every time. Imagine having a dead short, in a brand new pick up truck. Had to shut down the job site , have it flatbeaded to the...

    Vehicle Opinions

Ok, I’m thinking in terms of long distance; long time, touring. Simplicity is where it’s at. There are only one or maybe two vehicles currently in production that fit that bill and we can’t get them here. Here in the US we do have a lot of older vehicles with long track records to choose from...

And how much do they want for a speced out jeep with all that bling? The original Rubicon, I had one, was very affordable and somewhat dependable. How long do you think a new rubicon would last being used as a work vehicle on a farm, ranch or in petroleum or mining environment? If you...

    Vehicle Opinions

Yes, it is rare for folks to sell good examples. They can be found selling anywhere from about 7,000 and up, but for 7k be ready to dump another 7k into it. The good examples? The sky is the limit, 20k and up! Be patient, the wait would be well worth it.

    Vehicle Opinions

Ya, jeep lost its way when they built the big wrangler back in 2006 in an attempt to make it more bling & luxury instead of utility. Imagine if the 70 series had been exported to the US. Well, we got the 80- be happy we got that.

How How bout that; I do learn something new at least once a day. All these years I, as did many others, thought the Travelall was the first. Thanks- and yes it is an interesting aside, nothing wrong with a tangent now & then

Does Overlanding Require You to Go Off Pavement?

Here in North America if you truly want to be recognized as an overlander, this is the only permissible vehicle. Anything else is just posing .

I’m partial: The 100 series LC / LX470 hands down, not even a contest. The vehicle is in a class all by itself, just as the 80 series LC / LX450 is. These vehicles are the vehicles of choice for NGOs, Governments, and cartels world wide for too many reasons to list. The 4Runner is a distant...
