I have a 2017 Tepui Autana 3-Person Roof Top Tent and annex with the latest mattress upgrade. Tent has been slept in maybe a few dozen nights total but never on Playa or in heavy weather. I really love how heavy the canvas is on this tent. I've been in below freezing temperatures and...
I've got 3 lightly used Optima Deep Cycle Blue Top batteries that I just removed from my boat. Model # D27M. No corrosion. I replaced them because I had 1 bad one in the bank of 4. I've already scrapped the bad one. Being a boat, I figured that I'd rather change out all the batteries than get...
That is a great idea. I'll try that tonight. I've been messing around with antenna locations and found that there is more noise if the antenna is on a mag mount vs if the antenna is on a permanent mount on the bed of the truck.
Yaesu FTM400 grounded to chassis, receiving switched power through a SwitchPro 5100. I'll try direct to the battery this weekend and check if there is a difference. I'll also check to see if the switched auxillary LED lights attached to the SwitchPro have any effect when they are powered on or off.
Thanks for the suggestion! I was thinking that I might have to choke all of the different LED lights, but I'll try choking only the antenna and see how that works.
I'm relativley new to amature radio so bear with me. I was playing around with my radio in my truck the other night, listening to a group of guys talking on a repeater located on Mt Diablo, I'm in Stockton 40 miles away. Everything was coming in pretty clear until I turned my headlights on. As...
I run a Samsung S4 with Backcountry Navigator PRO and its absolutely fantastic. I have all of California and Nevada saved to the highest detail and still have plenty of storage. Mount the entire thing on a ram mount and I've never had a problem. Grabs GPS quickly an has a really great battery life.
I bit the bullet and bought one so I could chat with some of my off road racing friends when we were in the deep desert. Range was good, but I'm way happier that I'm now using a HAM.
I'm so damn jealous...
If anyone is in a pinch and looking for amber lights, I have a rear chase bar made by KC, never installed for $380, no installation brackets. I also have a couple of new amber cyclones for $30 each. I can order up replacements later.
I'm in Stockton, but if you need it...
The 400XDR is pretty nice. Once in a while I had problems picking up one of the guys that were using a handheld from the other side of a ridge line but I never had a problem picking up PapaDave. I think I was the only one using APRS out there though.
Dave - Thanks for organizing this trip. I had a blast. I saw you again in Sonora as I was driving up 49 from Yosemite but didn't have time to tune the radio to give you a shout out.
@PapaDave I think I'm going to miss the start point but should be catching up with you guys before or at your fuel stop in Bridgeport. It will be quicker for me to catch 108 coming through Copperopolis than making the loop around to Oakdale. You can't miss me. Grey metallic Tacoma with RTT and...
