    My build.

Love this. Looks like a transformer with all that fold out space. Lots packed into a small package. I’ve been wanting to do something similar myself.

    Goldie Hawn - '05 Silverado 1500 Z71

Much appreciated! I’ve always loved tinkering and working on projects. Comes in handy with a sorta-prepper mindset. I’ve got a lot planned for Goldie, too many “nexts” to chose from. Good thing the wife is super supportive. This truck keeps me out of trouble, is a security blanket for the...

    Goldie Hawn - '05 Silverado 1500 Z71

Goldie Hawn's "Cam Job" So, here is how this started. Back in March I noticed a coolant issue, slow leak. I found that odd as all of my cooling components were new (hoses, radiator, pump, etc, etc). I eventually found a very, very small hole right at the water pump neck (up high). I...

    Goldie Hawn - '05 Silverado 1500 Z71

Well, it may be about time that I start to document the work I'm doing on my rig. To be honest, I should have started this a log time ago, as Goldie's been with me a while and has needed some care. Here we are on the Bonneville Salt Flats a few years back. She's not exactly stock, but not...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Had just returned from a road trip across three states to see family when my radiator barfed all over my drive way. Soooooo…. Installed a new radiator, hoses, and water pump for good measure (180k on the ‘05). Also replaced the idler arm and bracket, inner and outer tie rods, sway bar links...

I’ve finally come up with a name for my ‘05 Silverado. I’ll name her, Goldie Hawn. She’s blonde, a touch on the old side, and has had some work done.

Last purchase: new KO2 tires. Next purchase, new tie rods, pitman, and idler arm.

    Photography

Shot of my rig, an ‘05 Silverado 1500. At the Bonneville Salt Flats under the Milky Way. I shoot a Nikon D810 and generally have a 24mm prime mounted to it.

    Yukon XL Denali Overland Rig

Good lookin’ and functional rig. At times I wish I had the full size suv vs the truck I have. Then again, the truck as come in handy. Love that roof rack. I’m looking to do something similar, but will probably opt for the contractor rack since I have a truck.

Let's see those full size rigs - Trucks & SUV

Just a few pics from the cab of my ‘05 Silverado. Navigation is via iPad and inReach. I’ll be adding an ATT OBD hot spot soon for WiFi and monitoring vehicle codes. Comms are cellphone, FRS, and CB. May add HAM if I can find the time to get licensed. Medical is the FieldCraft Survival med...

    Mounting Electronics

This is the approach I’ve taken in my ‘05 Silverado. The mount is from Amazon, brand is “iBolt”. Wasn’t very expensive and works very well. I’ve used Ram Mounts in work trucks before, but I didn’t want to spend all the $$ for one. This is working very well. Not much vibration to speak of, and...

    Jumper Cable Circuit Breaker

Well, this is the approach I’ve taken. I will be adding a QD under the hood at some point to prevent any potential issues down the road. Thanks for all the suggestions. Oh! I got a LiIon jumper pack as well.

Let's see those full size rigs - Trucks & SUV

Thanks much! The Bonneville Salt Flats were not far from my home in Utah. Loved camping there.

My 2005 Silverado 1500. She’s treated me very well, from Alaska to Canada to Utah and now Alabama. 180K and she’s going strong!

    285 75 17s on 2005 Silverado 1500

Hey gang. Just wanted to put this out there as I know it’s a theme that comes up from time to time. That being “How big can I go?” My rig is a 2005 Silverado 1500 (Not HD). Stock it came with 265 70 17s. Four years ago I put on some 285 70 17s. The truck was still stock at the time, and the...

    Jumper Cable Circuit Breaker

Good points, all. Yep, my main concerns were as above. For driving, a short. You are correct in that I’ve taken time to carefully route my wiring, so absent a wreck, I should be in good shape. For jumping, I hadn’t considered what many of you have point out - the sheer amperages that may be...

    Jumper Cable Circuit Breaker

I like the thought of a ‘quick disconnect’ in here, for the reasons you mentioned.

    Jumper Cable Circuit Breaker

Good people, I have a question regarding circuit breaker sizing. I’ve direct-wired a 4-gauge wire to my 2005 Silverado. Positive to a terminal block under the hood designated for jumper cable clamping. Negative to the block. On the other end is an Anderson connector, which is on the front of...

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

Yeah, it's a weird quirk of the Utah law. It really doesn't apply to me as I am LE, so I shouldn't have used "I", but was trying to illustrate a civilian carrying. Apparently, you can open carry in Utah without a permit but only if you don't have a round chambered. Full mags are ok (pistols...
