Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Next up, I'm adding lighting and charging to the interior trim on the liftgate. This was something that I'd wanted to do to the fleet cars when I worked at a big Home Inspection firm, the extra lighting inside the liftgate for grabbing or putting away tools or getting changed into boiler suits...
Major progress recently, and almost no photos to back it up!
After deciding that 1" of lift wasn't enough for my purposes, I'd decided to add in an extra 2" lift kit with subframe drop brackets from ADF as well and extended travel front axles from NAPA.
While we had it apart, I replaced the...
My most recent mod:
I've roughed in some jerrycan holders for a JK using L-tracks and rivnuts. They still need some adjustment, and I want at least two through-bolts per track that goes through all layers of sheet metal and are braced with washers and locknuts. The proof of concept definitely...
I'd also scored a cheapie tailgate tent that hangs off the liftgate. I'll take my daughters to the beach on my weekends and we'll just pop the tent up and chill in the back. It's really fun.
The tent didn't ship with guywires or pegs, so that's why it looks so deflated here.
I've been tinkering constantly, but I'm horrible at documenting my work so I thought that I'd just dump a bunch of updates on this thing.
I got tired of the fake burl wood interior so I pulled the panels, scuffed them, and short them with Rust Oleum Hammertone finish.
The cutout is for a...
Those King springs are a game changer. I'm currently running them with a 1" spacer lift. My DR swaybar link keeps ejecting nuts, so I think that when I overhaul my suspension this month, I'll probably just chuck the sway bars altogether.
How do you like it with the Kings and now sway bars? How...
It mounts up in the little coin tray in the fuse box door in the dash. It's a really clever design, even if it's too narrow for our generation outback.
Here is the USB and audio in on the driver's dash panel.
My luddite sound system.
And a combo USB audio in port on the dash. I'm going to relocate it into my next iteration of the dash panel, and use the hole as a pass-through for my indoor/outdoor thermometer and 24-hour clock in a cheap...
Alright, for one switch panel, I'm using this guy from Etsy.
I had to trim it down on the sides with a Dremel to make it fit, but it will run my ditch lights and spots.
Nice!
I'd love to have an older square-body 'Burb with the drop-down tailgate and roll-down rear window. My childhood best friend who got me into Scouting and arguably ended up shaping my whole life, his dad had a badass old Suburban.
I'd love to have that look and the solid axles, but with...
