Pete...looks like a fantastic itinerary and I can easily say Shangri-la / Lijiang is our favorite region for all things China. Heck...my avatar photo is taken in Lijiang and beauty totally surrounds!
We are currently in preparations to cast off next month for our annual half year tour which...
Pretty sweet looking rig!
One question...with all your gear plus extras (oversize tires, front bumper and winch, RTT, ect...) how are you in regards to your GVWR? Has it ever been a problem? I am hesitant to fill my tank because it puts me over the limit when we're fully decked out...my mech...
Hey Pete
Thats great news!
Good luck finding a couple more adventurers for your path through XiZang. Keep us posted on your travels...here preferably if possible.
Also, if you could pass on any helpful advice for future overlanders as to how you were able to make this happen it would be...
I do recall a group of British rally enthusiasts doing a self driving tour here back in 2023, driving their own antique vehicles. Can't seem to find much about them online, but I'm sure you'll have a broader search than myself. Possibly someone from that group is available and can provide some...
Hi Pete...great to hear you're on that awesome adventure of yours. And I'm guessing tibettravel.org was of no help? China has recently been relaxing visa requirements...and possibly a window could be opening. I would suggest approaching a Chinese embassy or consulate in India and see if they...

But what I can confirm...

I was referring to the old fashion rubber hot water bottle...a popular canadian nightime sleeping accessory ;-)
But I must say the real game changer for us has been the introduction of the shower tent. To wash "without" the windchill, and then climb into your RTT that has been prepped with your...
Personally I think the bigger question is how often do you want to move camp...given the fact that you are a large family with animals. We do extended trips and our best camps are the long term stealth ones. I now find myself leaning towards seasonal camps with a minimum amount of movement. And...
Not sure if you have a spare tire mounted on your gate...but if so, Yakima make a sturdy rack that we've been using for a few years that has worked well. Keeps the bikes high and outta harms way.
A bit of an old thread but I'll add my $0.02 for what it's worth...
We do extensive touring with an RTT. We're actually 1 month into a tour right now. Last year we did a solid 5 month tour as well as the year before. We've been in some of the worst conditions I have ever experienced...and yes...
