I would encourage you to drive the car, and before you go, research your stops along the way, to ensure you can access it by car. When you return, you can make an educated decision as to if this hobby is one you are willing to dump thousands of dollars into.

Bedslide has a 2,000lb slide. It is relatively affordable. However, you will have to do a lot of the buildout on your own. Also, check out this build. I was really intrigued by the system this gentleman put together. A very fair price for what you get, in my opinion. I'll leave the video below...
