    Injuries and Recovery.

No idea hw I broke the wrists as i severely hit my head as well and suffered from amnesia for about six weeks. I was riding a motorcycle at the time which is a write-off. The wrists, banged-up knees, two broken ribs and the blow to the head leads me to believe it was serious. Nine weeks in...

    Injuries and Recovery.

Let's hear from those of us who have hurt ourselves while overlanding. What happened? How long did recovery take? Did it change your outlook? I broke both wrists in July and still can't write although laptop button pushing has become possible ( but slow .) Cheer me up a bit by telling of your...

What's do you think the most impactful first upgrade is to a rig?

After driving home in a 25 year old vehicle, I have got to say tires. A front wheel deflation in a snow storm needs to be avoided.

Classify as a "full size rig". Jayco Seneca XT 35L

I have had a good look round the 2x4 Seneca and didn't think the build quality was good enough for full-timing and thought it would get very tatty very quickly.

My big problems with something like that would be concerning body-flex and that long rear overhang. It would be tempting to take it to its limits too but it seems like good value for money if the build is sturdy enough.

First Time Adventure Truck Advice Needed

I'm probably into the truck for $50,000 although that was spent over the two years it took for the build. The truck is great because we have everything we need on board for comfortable off-grid living; it is just that all expenditure is big expenditure, such as fuel, tyres and repairs. Here is...

First Time Adventure Truck Advice Needed

In my experience, big truck=big money; both in the build and running costs. When i retired, I full-timed for two years before Covid and did Western Canada, Western US and Mexico. I eventually came to the conclusion that it would be cheaper to tour on a motorcycle and stay in AirBnbs. Last year I...

Books that Inspired You to Get into Overlanding

Jupiter's Travels by Ted Simon. I followed his reports in the Sunday Times and then bought the book. I stumbled across his motorcycle in the museum at Coventry many years later and my heart skipped a beat. Nice to know Ted is still fit and well.

What is your must cook meal or must have food for camping.

Pancakes with what ever berries you can gather.

    How would you start over?

I would take the money and fly around the world with carry-on luggage; renting electric bicycles and staying in AirBnbs.

    Overlanding Tips for Latin America

Cost of fuel was the most noticeable difference. $200 a day for the truck as opposed to $20 for the bike. Journey times were halved with the bike with topes slowing the truck to a standstill. The truck is great for extended stays in one place, BLM etc. But for real exploring trips the bike was...

    Overlanding Tips for Latin America

Some wise words of wisdom there. Well said. We went South of the border for the third time last Winter and after two trips with the Overland Expedition Truck; this time we went by motorcycle and stayed in Airbnbs. So much cheaper and so much less stressful plus we saw so much more.
