I've had a 4x4 ever since I first started driving. I've had the wheeling bug ever since I first shifted a transfer case in that 85 S-10 about 20 years ago. I went from it to an 87 Silverado and a 00 Jeep Cherokee. I've occasionally had other cars and trucks for DDs, but I've always had an adventure rig as well.
In early 2015, the Jeep was giving me a fit. I was really about 3 years out from being ready to buy something else, but the time had come. I'd always wanted an FJ Cruiser, and set about looking for one with a reasonable price tag. I was having a hard time finding any locally, and told my wife I'd settle for a 4Runner, Taco, or Xterra. She said, "I don't want you to settle. You've wanted an FJ since you first saw one. That's what you need to get."
So we did. It's a 2007 with the factory roof rack and rear locker. Previous owners added a 3" lift, rear receiver, and sliders.
Then we proceeded to make it our own and enjoy the hell out of it. We added a snorkel, a big transmission cooler, aux lighting, a couple awnings, and a rooftop tent. So far it has explored from Richmond to Orlando. We're looking forward to many more adventures!
In the summer, we love the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Other times of the year, we're in the George Washington National Forest in VA.
But we always love a ride in our FJ.
