I have been into the outdoors since childhood. I started taking my first 4x4 on extended camping trips in 1989 (probably before 'overlanding' became a thing here in the USA, we just called it truck camping). My wife and I spend as much time in the backcountry as our schedules allows and our three dogs always accompany us.
The majority of our trips are short & local, spending a lot of time here in southern NM in the Gila National Forest and Sacramento Mountains. We do try to take a week-long trip at least once a year but that doesn't always work out so it's usually long weekends out & about. I volunteer with Team Rubicon doing disaster response and my wife works with the Girl Scouts full time, training adult troop leaders and their troops in outdoor skills.
