I grew up camping in the Appalachian mountains (WV and PA mostly) with my parents. We used to go tent camping in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. As my parents got older they moved away from that style of camping and moved towards camper and eventually RV camping. As a result, I saw my love for camping and nature decline. Campgrounds and parking lot style campsites were not what I fell in love with.
It wasn't until I was in the Marine Corps as an Infantryman that I fell back in love with camping. Although camping in the Marine Corps was far less fun than what I was used to I got to see some incredible things. During my time in the Marines, I got to travel the world and see the deserts in the Middle East, the Rocky Mountains, jungles in Okinawa Japan, and much more. I found my passion for the outdoors and camping again, even if I was somewhat miserable at the time.
I told myself that once I got out of the Marines I would take it upon myself to go out and explore and enjoy nature the way I had always wanted. So I bought my dream Overlanding vehicle a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ and I am in the process of getting it set up for adventure. I really hope to learn a lot from this site and the forums so that I can have the best experience possible.
