    Portland Metro area today

Sorry I haven’t checked in here for a few days or I would have gone. The fam and I went out Saturday and explored Gifford Pinchot just North of Washougal. Great day to be out exploring. Got up to a little above 2,000ft before the snow got a little more than I wanted to do solo with the kids in...

    Columbia River Gorge

I’m absolutely ready to go do some trips in Gifford Pinchot as soon as the snow melts. Also, there is some cool dispersed camping up the North fork of the John Day, along with some stuff out near the Mitchell area. The Ochoco range is a pretty awesome spot too.

I’m also over in Vancouver and would love to get out for some day trips this spring. Explored a bit around Rimrock Area this past summer with intentions to go back out soon. I also just planned out a fun, but not super intense (hopefully) forest road route going from down by Klickitat north and...

What knives do you guys recommend?

I have a Benchmade Griptilian that I love and stays mostly in the truck unless I’m out doing stuff. I also carry a Leatherman Skeletool for work during the week since I work in maintenance. It’s nice and gives you knife/pliers/both screwdrivers and has a nice pocket clip. I would wholeheartedly...

Since I spent most of my life in Oregon I tend to pay the ransom price for an out of state license and fish mostly over there. Haven’t purchased one yet this year, but I may start exploring Washington waters more.

    Montana Fly Fishing

My buddies and I did an awesome day trip while in Montana this summer. If you go just east of Missoula and take Rock Creek Rd (MT102) to the south you can follow Rock Creek and connect with Skalkaho Rd (hwy 38) and head west and it will drop you in on HWY 93 just south of the town of Hamilton...

    Fly Fishing

It took a minute, but this year is the year I realized that I combine the two things all the time. Even for the last two years with two kids under 4, we would base camp and then go explore forest roads to find water to fish and relax near. I feel like overlanding & fly fishing go together like a...

A fun idea would be a meet up in Seaside someday and the head just north to Gearhart and drive up the beach. I’m pretty sure even 2WD folks could have fun, and there are always tow straps.

Possible monthly NW-OR SW-WA meetup idea, input?

Put me on the “keep in the loop” list too, please.

    Portland Area

I’m in Vancouver and I’ve been doing research on the area NE of here towards St. Helens/Mt.Adams. The Gifford-Pinchot area looks pretty cool & accessible. If anyone ever wants to go explore up there definitely let me know.

    Heading to the Northwest

I second that for sure! Pretty much the entire Oregon coast is great, but the Stretch from Florence to Depot Bay is the most breathtaking in my opinion. Another amazing spot to check out it the Mt. Jefferson wilderness near the Metolius River. There are tons of forest roads surrounded by huge...

What’s up everybody? New to OB, but spent most of my life in the NW. I grew up on the Oregon Coast, traveled a bit in my 20’s, then came home to settle down in the Portland area about 14 years ago. Living up in Vancouver these days, but my family explores all over the PNW each summer and I do a...

GAIA maps is a great resource as well. You can easily layer MVUMs and public land overlays to get you out to some amazing spots. It’s also nice because you can select the area you want to explore and download that map for offline use before you leave, then reception isn’t a problem. It is a...

Thanks for the welcome! I’m down in the Vancouver area and assuming time lines up we could absolutely hit the river someday. I love saltwater fly fishing (Florida & Mexico mostly) but my true home is on a river, trying to get a finicky trout or steelhead to believe some feathers and string is an...
