Yes ...a radio is now your next goal. There are many members here on OB who can Elmer you now. Don't hesitate to ask for help and advice.
It's going to be hard NOT to spend 20-40 dollars and get a clone of a "real" radio. Yes, better than nothing, but if you buy one of the top three brands...

That era of Jeeps especially with the 4.0L are bulletproof and fairly easy to work on. I have a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo that I would drive to Montana today!!! LOL...
A couple of things. How much do they want for it?? And does it have the more desirable SELECT-TRAC...
Hi Mitch ...
I'm curious where you got your information about registration of the M416. I have an M416 that is currently registered here in California. It has a VIN number and DMV issued license plate. Most M416 are registered as utility trailers.
Couple of questions....
What brand winch is it, and when you say "wire"...do you mean to say winch cable? Or is it really a wire. A pic would really help out.
Thanks,
Ed
Both of those are good choices....and so is Yaesu. I happen to run Yaesu, but you can't go wrong with the top 3 brands.
Pick a brand and stick with it. It's going to be easier for programing once you learn one brand.

Safe travels to all who are attending this event. I was in Bridgeport, Ca. two weeks ago. Great stores and a bakery to die for there. Fuel up if you can before Bridgeport....fuel was $5.60 per gallon. I'll be monitoring the C.A.R.L.A. ham linked frequency if you need help. Great repeater system...
I got a killer DEAL from a nearby OB member who purchased a Dometic CFX75DZ. He too realized that it took up valuable space in his Jeep. He had used it once and it looked brand new. Fits wonderful in my F150 bed.
I don't use the freezer setting very often, but run both zones in the fridge mode...
Yes! That's a beautiful area. There is good UHF / VHF repeaters in that area. Check out the C.A.R.L.A. website!
I like starting on on 182 (Sweetwater Road) to Masonic Road...visit the Chemung Mine, then work your way to the Bodie Masonic Road into Bodie State Park.
Good luck on you voyage!

I agree that the Yaesu FTM-400 is a great radio, but I just purchased the FTM-300D about a week ago from HRO- Oakland for $419. That is about 100 off the FTM-400 price. What helped in my decision was that I'm using it for a base unit. The FTM-400 does not attach to the main base...
